Video Relay Service Description

Video Interpreters provide an FCC regulated video and telephone interpreting service for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Hearing consumers.

Video Interpreters work within a designated Video Interpreting Center while working closely with fellow Video Interpreters and Management support.

Essential Functions

  • Strive for seamless communication while providing video relay service between Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Hearing consumers.
  • Provide Sign-to-Voice and Voice-to-Sign interpreting/transliterating via Video Conferencing technology.
  • Comply with policies and procedures as outlined by Interpretek operations and Management Support Team.
  • Maintain strict consumer confidentiality.

Qualifications and Expectations

  • NAD Level 4/5 or RID CI/CT/CSC/NIC level 1 or above *
  • Must have a minimum 3 years working experience as an interpreter
  • Must have a good working knowledge of interpreter code of ethics
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture
  • Good articulation and voicing skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Sensitivity to consumer needs
  • Strong understanding of customer service
  • Willing to work in a team environment
  • Flexible and cognizant of the needs of others
  • Ability to communicate professionally with co-workers and management
  • Taking the necessary time to prep before each shift

  • Commitment to 20 hours a month minimum

*Candidates without certification are required to demonstrate skills through Interpretek's screening process. If hired currently, you will be expected to take and pass the RID certification test within a year of employment.
