Video Remote Interpreting

Interpretek - as the name implies - leads the way with technology. We utilize the latest innovations to expand communication options. Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) allows interpreters to serve through video-conferencing equipment. With VRI, we can broadcast an interpreter to a location where an in-person professional is not available.

Rural emergency rooms, colleges without enough interpreters to staff all assignments, and employers can implement VRI to accommodate the needs of patients, students and employees.

VRI is relied upon more and more as the need for interpreting services continues to increase. Interpretek has been able to secure the services of interpreters throughout the country and make them accessible to others who might not have the resources nearby. Deaf or hearing consumers need not have sophisticated equipment to enjoy this service. However, there are certain minimum requirements that insure a proper connection and good picture quality. Minimally, each user must have a high speed internet connection and a web camera device for sending visual images. There are a variety of systems currently being utilized by both Deaf and hearing users. Interpretek can advise and educate consumers on the best set-up for each individual user. This is a fee-based service. Users are usually charged by the minute and only for the minutes they actually use. VRI should not be confused with Video Relay Services (VRS) which is free to users and concentrates solely on making and receiving phone calls through the use of similar technology.
